While working as graphic designers in Paris, recent graduates Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay made a dance track on a lark for a local radio contest. They lost. But in a lucky twist of fate, the duo happened to attend a dinner party where they met Pedro Winter, head of electronic label Ed Banger Records. After the meal, Winter, always on the lookout for new talent, asked them to play their track for him. Realizing that he was listening to something special, Winter urged them to quit their jobs and work for him making music. They signed their first contracts within 24 hours.

Ten years later, Augé and de Rosnay are still setting hearts pumping under their fittingly bombastic stage name, Justice. From their first hit track, “We Are Your Friends,” to their recent buzzing, tempo-shifting “Civilization,” the band epitomizes the eclectic French house aesthetic with liberally sampled disco beats, funky fade, and synthesized lyrics. Their latest record, 2011’s Audio, Visual, Disco, opened up their sound with unexpected prog rock influences, winning praise from NME as “a dance album with charm and measure beneath the banging fuzz.” Justice takes that lyrical, club-thumping sound on the road to give fans a taste of their upcoming live album, Access All Arenas, to be released on May 7.
