In a Nutshell

Guests bob their heads to an eclectic lineup of alt-rock, pop, and hip-hop groups before catching free film screenings and setting up camp

The Fine Print

Concerts, like dimly lit chandeliers, are more impressive outdoors and are more enchanting when adorned with strategically placed glow sticks. Take a breath of fresh music with this GrouponLive deal to the KahBang Festival at the Bangor Waterfront Park in Maine from Thursday, August 9, to Sunday, August 12. Choose between the following options:

  • For $30, you get a general-admission music pass for August 9–12 (a $60 value).
  • For $60, you get a general-admission music pass for August 9–12 and up to four nights of camping from Wednesday, August 8 to Sunday, August 12 (a $120 value).

Gates open at 12 p.m. for performances on Friday and Saturday. Thursday night's concerts are free and go from 5–11 p.m. The camping area opens at noon on August 8 and closes at 4 p.m. on August 12. Each music pass includes entry to the festival grounds on August 9–12, re-entry prior to 3 p.m., and entry to three evenings' worth of film-festival screenings. The second option includes a souvenir wristband.

In its fourth year, the KahBang Festival has emerged as one of the largest independent music, art, and film events in New England. The nine-day showcase of local and underground artists ends with a weekend dedicated to alternative musicians of all aural stripes and metaphysical spots at the scenic Bangor Waterfront Park. This year’s lineup is anchored by alternative metalheads Deftones, whose frontman Chino Moreno shifts his voice from a shredding scream to a hushed tenor to a series of disobedient raspberries. Bassnectar showers crowds with a synthesized torrent of electro-dubstep, and Penguin Prison mixes synth-heavy rhythms with catchy, upbeat vocals. Fans can also absorb the dexterous flow of hip-hop artist Wale. Audiences should check KahBang's website for a full schedule and lineup.

Guests who stay to camp for three nights can dance to live DJ music until the early morning and will be directed to sites large enough to accommodate one vehicle and up to four campers. After picking up their tickets and passes at will call, each member of the group must show their camping pass and proof of bad vibes vaccination to gain admittance to the grounds.

The Groupon Guide to: Oxymorons

Oxymorons are words or phrases that appear to be self-contradictory, useful for describing esoteric concepts and introducing children to irony so that you can start being more sarcastic to their faces. Learn to use the five most popular oxymora with these simple explanations:

Jumbo Shrimp: Shrimp are best known for being tiny and second-best known for having weird faces.

Civil War: War is actually decidedly uncivil and is marked, at its most mildest, by angry yelling.

Deafening Silence: Silence is defined as “the absence of noise.” This oxymoron was most likely invented by a poet with a brain disorder that was also responsible for his gift with words. When this happens it is a medical oxymoron.

"Helpful" Tech Support: This one is just a sarcastic joke for all you computer heads out there!

Shark Attack: It is always a shark defend, for it is you who is in their home.

Are all shark attacks actually shark defends?
