In a Nutshell

A proscenium-arch theatre features a music-filled, holiday celebration of family and Shakespeare's classic battle of the sexes

The Fine Print

Seasoned actors can convey subtle emotions to the back row, even through their two-man horse costume. Watch pros at work with this GrouponLive deal to see a performance at Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver. For $43, you get two tickets for best-available seating at redemption (up to an $86 value). Doors open one hour before showtime. Choose between the following shows:

A Cottage Community Christmas

Flashing back to 1983, A Cottage Community Christmas zooms in on the rustic, Vancouver Island cabin of the lovable Cornwall family as they ring in their favourite holiday. Amid hijinks and outrageous hair, the familial quartet shares their love of music. Renditions of Christmas classics by such artists as James Taylor, John Denver, and Karen Carpenter complement and offset sibling rivalries, appearances by surprise guests, and lessons on how to keep Dad from finding out that Santa is real.

Taming of the Shrew

The quintessential battle of the sexes, Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew treats showgoers to a madcap comedy about men and women's efforts—and failures—to live together. Swirling around the family of the wealthy lord, Baptista, the play follows the efforts to woo his daughters, the beautiful Bianca and her temperamental sister, Katherina. Equal parts raucous comedy of errors and complex examination of Elizabethan gender roles, the play comes to life at the hands of the venerable, New York–based Aquila Theatre, whose Shakespeare productions have been praised by the LA Times as "superb" and "exceptionally rewarding."

Kay Meek Centre

Mrs. Kay Meek could be considered a visionary of the theatre arts. She wanted to create a place that inspired the community and brought it together before the stage. To that end, she financed the Kay Meek Centre, a cultural hub that blends classic touches into a uniquely modern venue. With blond wood, soft pink brick, and purple fabrics, the main theatre is timeless, with acoustics that enhance every musical performance and stagehand’s whispered wish to be famous. The studio theatre, on the other hand, provides a more intimate experience, with adjustable seating able to adapt to any show.

The Groupon Guide to: Owl Food

Owls are not only the wisest of all the great birds in the sky but they're also the hungriest. Given the opportunity, owls will attempt to eat any of the following:

  • A mouse
  • A small rabbit
  • A mouse riding a small rabbit
  • A roller skate that has burger meat inside it
  • A large bug
  • A potato with cardboard mouse ears stuck on with toothpicks
  • A photo of a cow that makes it look like it's the size of a mouse
  • A dirty brown tennis ball rolling down a hill

Under what circumstances will an owl eat a cow?
