The Scouting Report
The Las Vegas Wranglers skate into the 2013–14 season in pursuit of the ECHL title and a ninth consecutive winning season. In these early contests, the team takes home ice against the Eastern Conference's Florida Everblades—named for Florida's famous wetlands full of swords—as well as fellow Western Conference contenders the Alaska Aces, last year's regular-season champions. In their quest to unseat the Aces, the Wranglers look to a bench packed with burgeoning rookie talent such as Greg Coburn, a defenseman who honed his skills playing against a brother recently picked in the first-round of the NHL draft.
Las Vegas Wranglers
A competitor in the East Coast Hockey League since its westward expansion in 2003, the Las Vegas Wranglers compete for the league’s coveted Kelly Cup. Sin City’s pack of puck-pushers defends their home ice at Orleans Arena with the help of a rowdy fan base and their mascot, Duke, a mythical, bull-like creature who can never leave the rink because there is always something red for him to charge at. As a contender in the highly competitive AA minor league filled with up-and-coming players, the Wranglers have sent a handful of the team’s one-time players and coaches to the National Hockey League.
