Musical-theater fans get their Von Trapp family fix as the LifeHouse Theater presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway treasure, The Sound of Music, with a youthful cast of local talent. Since 1959, the Tony Award–winning musical has been a part of the cultural lexicon, enchanting audiences of all generations with its songbook of sing-along classics—including “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “My Favorite Things”—and its story of love on the eve of World War II.

Inspired by the true story of the Trapp Family Singers, The Sound of Music follows postulant Maria, whose free spirit prompts the convent to turn her loose to work as a governess for father of seven Baron von Trapp. As her sweet melodies create a happy mountain home and finally teach the local birds to stay in tune, Maria and the Baron fall hopelessly in love, but not without a few hitches. The Baron is engaged to someone else, Maria is still a nun in training, and Nazis are on the horizon. Meanwhile, the children fill the stage with song, dance, and identical outfits designed for maximum adorability. Family friendly and loaded with lessons about love and devotion, The Sound of Music is a natural fit for the faith-based, interdenominational LifeHouse Theater, which prides itself on producing spiritually stimulating works that enrich the moral imagination.

The Groupon Guide to: Hungry Hippos

Are hippos hungry? You better believe it. I mean, look at them. You don't achieve a state of such rippling girth without living in a perpetual state of desire and consumption. Depending on the hungriness levels of your household hippo, you can keep your pachyderm's palate pacified with the perfect meals dictated by this hunger gauge:

  • Hungry Hippos: Tropical semiaquatic greens
  • Hungry, Hungry Hippos: Nutrient-rich pellets indistinguishable from plastic white marbles to nonscientists
  • Hungry, Hungry, Hungry Hippos: Human flesh, or new brand-name synthetic human-flesh substitute, ChunkaHunk®
  • Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry Hippos: Any landmark or architectural structure recognizable enough to convey location in a movie
  • Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry Hippos: A not-insignificant portion of the moon
  • Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry, Hungry Hippos: They cannot be sated. They cannot be stopped. Say your goodbyes, for that sound over the horizon is not thunder.

What do hungry, hungry hippos eat in real life? The answer might be you.
