In a Nutshell

Having already secured a playoff berth, the two-time champion Sparks attempt to improve on one of the WNBA's best home records

The Fine Print

Going to a basketball game lets fans feel the excitement and hear the pleas for quiet from the family living underneath the bleachers. Root for the home team with this GrouponLive deal to see a Los Angeles Sparks game at Staples Center. Choose between the following options:

  • For $15, you get one ticket for lower-level seating in sections 105–108 or 114–117 (up to a $31 value, including all fees)

  • For $29, you get one ticket for lower-level seating in sections 101–102, 110–112, or 119 (up to a $63.25 value, including all fees)

For either seating option, choose between the following games:

In a familiar flurry of purple and gold, the two-time WNBA champion Sparks blaze through the regular season's final two games before making a triumphant return to the playoffs. After missing the postseason a year ago for only the second time since 1998, the team has returned to its dominant self in 2012, compiling a 20–10 record behind 25-year coaching veteran Carol Ross and rookie forward Nneka Ogwumike. Ogwumike—who led the Stanford Cardinal to four consecutive Final Four appearances—has made her presence known, averaging 13 points in 29 games and ransacking the paint nightly for rebounds and clues to the Staples Center's famous hidden treasure chest.

Alongside Ogwumike, 2008 MVP and Rookie of the Year Candace Parker helps shut down opposing stars, including the Mercury's DeWanna Bonner on September 18 and the Lynx's Seimone Augustus on September 20. The game against the Lynx doubles as Fan Appreciation Night, honoring the Sparks crowds who boosted the team to one of the league's best home records by all exhaling at once to blow opponents’ jump shots off course.

The Groupon Guide to: Spotted or Striped?

Some animals have stripes that allow them to camouflage seamlessly into the tall grasses, whereas others have evolved to have spots that allow them to disappear into the leafy jungle canopy. Avoid getting confused with this helpful list of striped and/or spotted animals:

Leopards: Spots
Tigers: Stripes
Zebras: Stripes
Giraffes: Spot-shaped stripes
Panthers: Just black leopards with black spots that are hard to see on their also-black fur
Okapi: Half stripes, half boring
Cheetahs: Impossible to tell—a cheetah in motion is invisible to the human eye until it is upon you
Dog Named Spot: Neither, the dog is named after a famous dog general

What rare animal has stripes that look like spots?
