The Scrappers begin the chase for their first New York-Penn League championship since 2004 when a fresh season sprouts from the outfield grass on June 18. As a Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Scrappers have attached balloons to dozens of ballplayers and sent them floating toward the big leagues, including current stars CC Sabathia and Victor Martinez. Last summer, fans watched as outfielders Bryson Myles and Jordan Smith etched their names into the league's list of top performers. The hard-hitting duo finished with batting averages above .300, frustrating the opposition by combining for 62 RBIs and hitting liners that whispered "neener neener" as they whistled past pitchers' ears.

Eastwood Field plays host to the team's games, including the home opener on June 20, which will be followed by a fireworks show. Special promotions throughout the season provide a stacked lineup of additional delights, such as Family Fun Sundays, when kids can have their faces painted and run the bases after the game.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers

As the class-A short-season affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers have prepared rising stars for the big leagues since 1999. The feisty squad has worked their way through some tough seasons in the New York-Penn League, including four appearances in the league finals and a league championship in 2004. Now entering their 16th season, the Scrappers still play their home games at Eastwood Field, which showcases a view of verdant woods and the sasquatches living in peace beyond the outfield wall for crowds of up to 6,300 fans.
