Equipped with a background in costume and fashion design, Mark Mitchell is one of the most innovative artists on the scene, creating and exhibiting intricately designed, hand-detailed burial garments. Today Mark enjoys a flourishing career, having been named “Seattle’s Best Womenswear Designer” in 2013 by Seattle Weekly and several “Best of Seattle” nods from Seattle Magazine—but his personal background is one of triumphs and tribulations, and he infuses his inspiring love of life and transformation into all of his artwork. Mark is the subject of an award-winning short film, recently premiered “Mark Mitchell: Burial” at the Frye Art Museum in an exhibition of nine handmade silk ensembles, and has been featured in dozens of publications such as City Arts Magazines, Vanguard Seattle, and The Stranger.
