In a Nutshell

Television show turned touring performance brings some of today’s top magicians to stages across the country

The Fine Print

All it takes to become a magician is hard work, cunning misdirection, and four identical twins. Suspend your disbelief with this GrouponLive deal to see Masters of Illusion Live! at Sovereign Performing Arts Center on Thursday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Choose between the following seating options:

  • For $50, you get two tickets for seating in the orchestra section (up to a $116.90 value, including all fees).
  • For $37, you get two tickets for seating in the balcony (up to an $89.40 value, including all fees).

Based on the television show Masters of Illusion: Impossible Magic, the Masters of Illusion Live! tour brings some of today’s top performers to theaters across the country. Any one of the magical consortium’s wizards might headline in these two-hour revues, depending on availability and local laws about traveling in a locked safe. Ed Alonzo, the “Misfit of Magic,” entertains as a three-ring-ready circusmaster with a dark sense of humor, and the Budapest-born Katalin and his assistant Jinger put on a bewitching act of daring escapes and impossible costume changes. The stage may also be graced by talents such as the award-winning duo Ayala and Tanya or the goofy sleight-of-hand of card conjurer Michael Finney.

Sovereign Performing Arts Center

Since its inception in the 1870s, Sovereign Performing Arts Center has transformed itself numerous times. First a market and Masonic Temple, it morphed into The Academy of Music, then later to a Shriners-owned vaudeville theater and movie house in 1917. In 2000, it was rechristened with its new moniker and renovated to include comfortable seating and improved stage equipment. In spite of the updates, the auditorium retains its stately charm, showing off its ornate chandeliers, seats blanketed in rich burgundy hues, and a sprawling balcony that eats any actor who forgets his or her lines.
