Sovereign Performing Arts Center
Since its inception in the 1870s, Sovereign Performing Arts Center has transformed itself numerous times. First a market and Masonic Temple, it morphed into The Academy of Music, then later to a Shriners-owned vaudeville theater and movie house in 1917. In 2000, it was rechristened with its new moniker and renovated to include comfortable seating and improved stage equipment. In spite of the updates, the auditorium retains its stately charm, showing off its ornate chandeliers, seats blanketed in rich burgundy hues, and a sprawling balcony that eats any actor who forgets his or her lines.
