In a Nutshell

Restored original Tchaikovsky score provides the orchestral backdrop for an expertly danced portrayal of star-crossed lovers

The Fine Print

Dancers use their bodies to express emotions, unlike opera singers, who use their voices, and Punchin' Jack, who only uses his fists. Get an eyeful of art with this GrouponLive deal to see The Russian National Ballet's performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Music Hall Center. For $49, you get two tickets for seating in the main floor or front mezzanine on Saturday, March 23, at 8 p.m. (up to a $119 value, including all fees). Doors open at 7 p.m.

Tchaikovsky's take on Romeo and Juliet—one of several Shakespeare stories he used as inspiration for compositions––wordlessly tells the familiar story of star-crossed lovers torn asunder by warring families and rotten luck. In an evening of bodily expression and epic melodies, The Russian National Ballet unearths the original, restored version of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and presents it alongside a troupe of 50 dancers leaping, pirouetting, and suppressing the desire to sing love songs by The Cardigans.

Highlights from a performance in 2010

The Russian National Ballet

Founded in Moscow in the mid-1980s, during the transitional period of perestroika, The Russian National Ballet has adhered to the great traditions of Russian ballet companies amid social and political change. Led by artistic director Elena Radchenko, a former Bolshoi dancer, the company brings its classic ballets and well-practiced artistry to stages across the globe.

Music Hall Center

Built in 1928, Music Hall Center dazzles patrons with an ornate art-deco façade and lush Spanish Renaissance interior. Elegant columns, glittering chandeliers, and vibrant geometric patterns create a palatial atmosphere in the lobby. The auditorium's intimately arranged velvet seats leave every viewer within 70 feet of the stage, eliminating the need for binoculars or drawn-out games of telephone describing the onstage action.

The Groupon Guide to: Fighting Crime

While the police largely discourage comic book-inspired vigilantism, there are still a number of less flamboyant ways to combat crime in your community:

  • If you see something, say something—for instance, if you see a weird bug, make sure to tell everyone you meet that day about it.

  • Install intense floodlights in your bedroom so that no burglars can hide in the shadows and watch you sleep.

  • Teach children to trust the police by visiting schools dressed as something children already trust: a giant, talking dog wearing a policeman’s hat, with huge, unblinking plastic eyes.

  • Join a neighborhood watch, wherein adjacent neighborhoods volunteer to take turns staying up all night and watching each other to make sure no crimes happen.

  • When all else fails, join up with the lawless bands of lunatics who run your streets—you might be surprised how quickly you discard all morality in exchange for a skewer of boar meat roasted over a flaming garbage can.

Can you fight crime in your neighborhood by volunteering to never sleep again? Find out with today's Groupon Guide.
