In a Nutshell

Tony–nominated play meditates on questions of class and opportunity through the story of Margie, a single, unemployed mother

The Fine Print

Watching a play is the second-best way to achieve emotional catharsis, right behind writing a play about achieving emotional catharsis. Tear-stain a playbill with this GrouponLive deal to see the New Players Theater production of Good People at Van Fleet Theatre. For $20, you get two tickets for best-available seating (a $40 value). Doors open 30 minutes before the show. Choose from the following performances:

  • Thursday, September 20, at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, September 21, at 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 22, at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 23, at 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 27, at 8 p.m.
  • Friday, September 28, at 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 29, at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 30, at 2 p.m.

Though the New Players Theater is only in its second season, its talented crew of thespians, directors, and production designers shows no fear while tackling such challenging and thought-provoking works as David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People. The play, which was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play and described by the New York Times as a “subtly surprising treat,” tells the harrowing story of single mother Margie Walsh (Danielle Mann), who struggles to keep her household together in the wake of losing her job at the dollar store. Desperate to cover her mounting bills, she looks for work from her high-school boyfriend, Mike (Mark Schuliger), who has since become a successful doctor. As their divergent social and economic classes collide, so do the secrets of their pasts, bringing up questions of success, opportunity, and true goodness.

The Groupon Guide to: Wishes

Genies, like fathers, exist solely to give you everything you want. If you’re lucky enough to have a trapped benevolent soul in your life, here’s what you should ask for:

  • An end to all crimes, except the ones you commit

  • A car with a person in it, so you can always use the carpool lane or park in the loading zone of Staples if you're just going to be one second

  • The ability to look at someone and know exactly why they’re crying

  • A trip around the world to meet every dog

  • To find true love so that you can destroy it and then write a really touching book about the whole thing

  • Exactly one more wish

Are some people cheating their way into the carpool lane?
