In a Nutshell

Veteran improvisers perform as audiences suggest comedic situations and dine on chicken dinners

The Fine Print

Many theatergoers claim that life imitates art, which can be frustrating when they pause arguments for intermissions or direct drivers to turn "stage left" at stop signs. Learn to navigate the theatrical world with this GrouponLive deal for an improv dinner-theater performance from Don’t Feed the Actors at The Central New York Playhouse. Performances run on Saturdays, with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m. Choose between the following options:

  • For $20, you get general admission and dinner for two (up to a $40 value).
  • For $40, you get general admission and dinner for four (up to an $80 value).

Dinner varies from show to show, and it often includes a chicken entree, salad, and coffee provided by Cathy’s Corner Café.

This Groupon is valid for the following dates:

  • December 1
  • January 5
  • February 2
  • March 23
  • May 11

The seasoned jesters of the Don't Feed the Actors comedy troupe take on a score of different characters during monthly dinner-theater performances. As audiences shout out suggestions for potential skits, off-the-cuff actors assume such roles as radio-station personalities and bar patrons while others yank volunteers into the action and create convincing sound effects. Many of the company's cast members have been bouncing lines off each other for up to 15 years, and the tight-knit group frequently takes its show on the road to venues and populations of comedy-deprived zoo animals throughout the state.

The Central New York Playhouse

Even though central New York's theater scene blossoms with an ever-growing number of production companies, space for carrying out performances is limited. The Central New York Playhouse was built out of this necessity in fall 2012, accommodating both intimate and large-scale performances inside ShoppingTown Mall. Designed by 2012 SALT Award nominee and stage designer Navroz Dabu, the 4,500-square-foot space allows local companies to rent out its stage for a variety of productions, from improv comedy nights to all-dog productions of Hamlet.

The Groupon Guide to: Types of Forks

The fork is one of the most important inventions of recent years, and since its debut fork makers have pushed themselves to be better fork makers, creating more than thousands of specialized forks. Here's a small sampling of the forks available in these fork-rich times that we live in:

  • Salad fork
  • Side salad fork
  • Soup fork
  • Swork (combination fork/sword)
  • Corn fork
  • Cutting fork
  • De-fatting fork
  • Finger fork
  • Baby fork for babies
  • Baby fork for small adults
  • Brork (fork made of bread)
  • Tork (toasted brork)
  • Flossing fork
  • Forkington M. Forksmith, the Fork with Plenty of Personality
  • Four chicken bones held between your knuckles
  • No-Chork™ the Fork That's Safe to Swallow
  • A stick, or nature's fork
  • Anything, because a fork is just whatever helps you get food from outside to inside your body

This year, I'm thankful for all these forks.
