The Scouting Report
In the inaugural Major League Ultimate season of 2013, the Spinners gathered Philadelphia's finest frisbee stars and established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the league. This season, the squad returns leading scorer Sean Murray, who finished last year with 26 goals and 12 assists despite playing a defensive position. After using the franchise's first offseason to fine-tune their playbook and study alien spacecraft for insights into frisbee aerodynamics, the Spinners will look to improve on their 2013 campaign in the 10-game 2014 season.
Without the Philadelphia Spinners, Major League Ultimate would not even exist. After the squad won the 2012 American Ultimate Disc League championship, Spinners' coach and GM Jeff Snader wanted to fashion a league that would better capitalize on the enthusiasm for the sport. To chase that vision, Snader and the Spinners walked away from a title defense, instead forming Major League Ultimate and establishing rivalries with fellow frisbee fanatics. Today, Snader serves as league commissioner, working hard to steer his cherished sport on the path to prominence. The Spinners compete in the Eastern Conference, giving them a competitive platform to one-up cities such as Boston and New York without arguing over whose signer of the Declaration of Independence wore the best wig.
