The Scouting Report
A chorus of cheering fans and thunderous hits serve as the opening overture for the 2013 PSU Vikings football season, which gets underway on August 29 with a clash against the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers. A finalist for the Jerry Rice Freshman of the Year Award, the Vikings' sophomore quarterback returns to the field with a season of hard-won experience running the team's Pistol offense. Then, on September 26, the Vikings look to avenge last season's 37–25 loss to Cal Poly, this time bolstered by the roars and strategic awkward silences of a home crowd.
Portland State University Athletics
A member school of the Big Sky conference since 1996, the Portland State University Vikings proudly represent their conference and home state in NCAA Division I competition. Clad in forest green and white, the Vikings—sometimes referred to as the Park Block Bombers after the campus's location in Portland's Park Block District—showcase a high level of amateur athletics in spectator-friendly arenas, including the recently renovated JELD-WEN Field. Added for the 2013-14 season, JELD-WEN Field's new video scoreboard helps football fans follow the action without assistance from binoculars, and a revamped field turf ensures that players are no longer dragged out of bounds by sentient weeds.
