The Portland Trail Blazers bound into the 2012–13 season with their sights set on a playoff run and a chance to make some shoe-squeaking noise in the Western Conference. New coach Terry Stotts looks to mold the team's young nucleus into a formidable powerhouse. He plans to effect the transformation with a coaching philosophy that hinges on an up-tempo, wide-open offensive attack and a disciplined defensive approach so that they won't need to rely on weak-side help from the Blazer dancers. As they enjoy a hot dog and a soft drink, spectators can watch the Blazers' new approach take shape as they attempt to climb the ladder in early-season tilts against four different foes. Crowds of up to 19,980 fill Rose Garden Arena, cheering in appreciation of every Blazers basket and every dazzling referee hand signal.

Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers made their NBA debut as an expansion team in the 1970–71 season. In 1977, they won their first and only league championship, though they made subsequent Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992 during a stretch from 1983–2003 in which they dazzled foes in the playoffs every season. The success of their ’77 championship run sparked a streak of 810 consecutive sold-out home games between 1977 and 1995. This led them to move into the newly constructed Rose Garden Arena in 1995, where to this day, up to 19,980 fans cheer in appreciation of every Blazers basket and every dazzling referee hand signal.

The Groupon Guide to: Odiferous Lunches

Whether you eat lunch with your coworkers, costudents, or coconspirators, you want to be packing impressive smells in your midday meal. Here are some of the smelliest lunches around:

Tuna: The “fish of the sea” gives off a strong odor when let loose from its can. Mix it with mayo and relish to up its pungent power.

Garlic: When it comes to filling a room with smells, garlic is Mother Nature’s edible Glade PlugIn. Turn any sandwich into a psychedelic smellscape by adding whole cloves of garlic to it.

Blue Cheese: The cheese that makes sense as much as it makes scents! Melt blue cheese using your desktop fondue maker (bowl on top of warm computer) and you’ve got yourself an all-day smell factory.

Flowers: Did you know they’re edible? Well, most of them are, but they’re extremely fattening. Check with your local florist for nutrition facts and yummy samples.

How are millions of Americans making delicious fondue at their desks?
