The Scouting Report

For the last two seasons, the Winterhawks have earned the title of Western Conference champion. Undaunted by the loss of the Chynoweth Cup, the team has yet again risen to the top of the Western Conference's US Division with a 54–12–1–2 record through 69 games—the best record in the entire Western Hockey League. The club owes its repeated success to a star-studded roster that includes centers Nicolas Petan, Ty Rattie, and Brendan Leipsic, currently the top three scorers in the league with more than 103 points each. In 39 games guarding the net, goalie Mac Carruth has prevented 1,026 shots from setting off the lights, earning him a .929 save percentage and a second-place ranking in WHL’s top-goalies list.

The Winterhawks have a winning legacy, claiming 10 Western Conference championships since 1976 as well as two league titles, in '83 and '98. That first Memorial Cup win made the 'Hawks the first American team to take home the CHL's greatest honor, leading to one of the most rapturous customs paperwork signings in history.
