Award-winning musical director Timothy Russell has led the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra through three decades of innovative and enchanting orchestral performances. Celebrating a holiday tradition, ProMusica invites audience members to bring along their favorite sentient nutcracker and sing along with a rousing production of Handel’s Messiah, steered by acclaimed Arizona State University choir authority David Schildkret. One of the world’s most beloved oratorios, Handel’s take on the sacred story is best experienced with mass vocals and instrumentals. Along with a crop of choirs, string savants, and music directors harvested from partnering high schools, the audience joins the ProMusica musicians in a wall of euphony, coating the luminous arches of the Southern Theatre with humbug-zapping zeal and clouds of Yuletide peppermint breath.

Southern Theatre

The oldest surviving theater in central Ohio, the fin de siècle elegance of the Southern Theatre's jewel-box auditorium transports audiences back to the days of vaudeville antics and silver-screen spectacle. Built in 1896 to state-of-the-art standards, the theater's bandshell-esque proscenium bucked architectural norms to funnel sound to the seats. Its 204 light bulbs required that the theater generate its own electricity for years, until scientists finally found the power outlets. Before the show, audiences can feast on the recently restored auditorium's eye candy, which includes a gilded ceiling etched with reclining figures and majestic arches that help the eye dance throughout.

Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.
