In a Nutshell

Famous duo of counter-culture comedians revives seminal stage act, and unfamiliar faces take the stage the night before

The Fine Print

Without laughter, sitcom producers would have to fill the pauses after punch lines with the sound of one clown slowly honking his nose. Get a healthy dose of the good stuff with this GrouponLive deal to the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet. Doors open one hour before each show. Choose between the following options:

  • For $15, you get one G-Pass for reserved balcony seating at Nobodies of Comedy on Friday, October 26, at 8 p.m. (up to a $27.50 value, including all fees).
  • For $30, you get one G-Pass for reserved balcony seating at Cheech and Chong on Saturday, October 27, at 8 p.m. (up to a $60.85 value, including all fees).

Because the ticket is a G-Pass, Groupon customers can use it to enter the venue directly; they will not need to redeem their Groupon at will call.

Iconic comedy duo Cheech and Chong engulf audiences in noncarcinogenic giggles on their first 2012 tour. After nine hit albums, eight hit movies, and the suspicion of countless K-9 units, counter-culture connoisseurs Richard “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong return to mix new bits with classic routines such as “Where’s Dave” and “Let’s Make a Dope Deal.” Due to the intrinsic nature of their most ballyhooed hobby, every show is subject to surprises, which sometimes include fan-favorite musical numbers such as “Basketball Jones” or Cheech donning his pink tutu for the Up in Smoke acid-rock jam “Earache My Eye.” Having been around the block a few times in their intriguingly green van, the pair have honed a raunchy act that appeals to generations young and old, even if they won’t admit it.

By contrast, Friday evening’s show is made up entirely of newcomers to the mic as some as-yet unrecognized funny folks appear in Nobodies of Comedy. Culled from clubs all over the country, these small-scale stars tell ribald rib-ticklers without all of the view-blocking paparazzi of celebrity comics.

Due to security restrictions, G-Passes must be printed out and presented in person at the event. They cannot be redeemed through Groupon's mobile app.

Rialto Square Theatre

Designed to mimic the French palace of Versailles, Rialto Square Theatre's magnificent interior awes showgoers with its gilded opulence. In the regal inner lobby, a 20-foot, 250-light chandelier—dubbed The Duchess—illuminates a circular series of delicate reliefs that depict allegories of man triumphing through labor and scenes from Greek mythology. A scaled-down replica of Paris's Arc de Triomphe leads from the lobby to the rotunda, adding to the space's grandeur and commemorating miniature Napoleon's victory at the adorable Battle of miniature Austerlitz.
