Stretching along the riverbank in late July is La Soirée, an offbeat variety show fresh from award-winning runs in Australia and London, where The Guardian called it a "sassy, delinquent thrill" that leaves audiences "dizzy with pleasure." The cast, which includes stars from the Olivier-Award winning La Clique, collects jaw-dropping talents from around the world, from drag divas to flamenco-inspired aerialists to hula-hoop artists who move with sinuous speed. In addition to the twisted cabaret acts and alluring burlesque, onlookers gasp and guffaw at as the performance turns to a circus sideshow, with the entertainers form dangerously towering human structures, juggle bowling pins, and spin from the rafters, often while contorted into elaborate twists or origami swans. Nestled beneath a 70-foot blue and yellow tent on the banks of the Chicago River, the Riverfront Theater's temperature-controlled interior keeps guests comfortable as performers heat up the stage.

The Groupon Guide to: The Little Engine That Could

The inspirational children's tale The Little Engine That Could was first published in 1906 as Story of the Engine that Thought It Could. Here are the other names the publisher considered before settling on the memorable final title:

  • The Little Engine That Couldn't (Or So He Thought!)
  • The Little Engine That Could Talk but That Wasn't the Most Amazing Part
  • The Little Wuss Train That Tricked Itself into Being Good Enough
  • Murder in Monaco: A Jack Trane Mystery
  • The Little Engine That Could Before Being Made Obsolete by Airplanes

When will airplanes finally be the only form of public transportation?
