The comedians at Sacramento Comedy Spot, named one of the best places to take a date by Sacramento News & Review readers in 2008, split sides with weekly lineups of improv, sketch comedy, and standup routines. Their flagship show, the Anti-Cooperation League, is among the longest running improv shows in Sacramento, giving comedy fans an unscripted Saturday night alternative to Saturday Night Live. Each week, the laugh masters of the League interview a special guest, such as a local business owner or movie director, and then devise seamlessly woven improv scenes based on the information gathered. Past guests have included The Grey director Joe Carnahan and local muralist Skinner, who were both tickled by the troupe’s impeccable comic reflexes. Upcoming guests (subject to change) include Good Day Sacramento's Amy Carabba (December 1) and amphibian conservationist Michael Starkey from Save the Frogs (December 8).

The club’s various comedy shows transform snacks into projectile objects as guests wet their whistles with beer, and munch on popcorn and candy. Those wanting to try their hands at the laugh-luring profession can participate in an open mic, or enroll in one of the Spot's improv, standup, or sketch classes.

The Groupon Guide to: Types of Forks

The fork is one of the most important inventions of recent years, and since its debut fork makers have pushed themselves to be better fork makers, creating more than thousands of specialized forks. Here's a small sampling of the forks available in these fork-rich times that we live in:

  • Salad fork
  • Side salad fork
  • Soup fork
  • Swork (combination fork/sword)
  • Corn fork
  • Cutting fork
  • De-fatting fork
  • Finger fork
  • Baby fork for babies
  • Baby fork for small adults
  • Brork (fork made of bread)
  • Tork (toasted brork)
  • Flossing fork
  • Forkington M. Forksmith, the Fork with Plenty of Personality
  • Four chicken bones held between your knuckles
  • No-Chork™ the Fork That's Safe to Swallow
  • A stick, or nature's fork
  • Anything, because a fork is just whatever helps you get food from outside to inside your body

This year, I'm thankful for all these forks.
