Back in time for Valentine’s Day, the Saint Louis Ballet artfully presents the Shakespearean classic Romeo and Juliet, a timeless tragedy about forbidden teenage lovers struggling to keep their relationship intact because of their feuding families. The cast tiptoes under the guidance of artistic director Gen Horiuchi, former principal New York City Ballet dancer, and choreographer for the opening ceremonies of the 1998 Nagano Olympics. The refined footwork and daring swordfights, set to melodious ear-pleasers composed by Sergei Prokofiev, gracefully capture the passionate tale of youthful love, familial grudges, and tragic miscommunications that could have been avoided with a simple text message.

Touhill Performing Arts Center

A Celtic music festival. A string quartet playing classical arrangements from Latin America. A modern dance program. These are just a few of the things you can see at Touhill Performing Arts Center, a modern entertainment emporium set into the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus. The venue’s eclectic schedule elegantly summarizes their mission: to curate memorable entertainment from a variety of performance disciplines. A smaller theater provides an ideal atmosphere for taking in intimate jazz performances. In the larger, stately auditorium, visitors can marvel at stirring ballets or sneak into the orchestra pit to practice their conducting skills.
