Many common phrases were coined by William Shakespeare, including "dead as a doornail," "vanish into thin air," and "Oh no, I'm falling." Start a dialogue with this GrouponLive deal to the Gala After Hours Black Tie Event from the Shakespeare Theatre Company at Sidney Harman Hall. For $75, you get one ticket for general admission on Monday, October 15, at 7 p.m. (up to a $125 value). An included VIP cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres, open bar, and dancing begins at 9 p.m. in the West Court of the National Building Museum.

In conjunction with the Harman Center for the Arts' annual gala, the Gala After Hours event helps the Shakespeare Theatre Company celebrate all things Bard. This year's black-tie party begins by tackling "Shakespeare's Timeless Characters," with a multidisciplinary performance full of stage actors, dancers, singers, rappers, and a clown. Swimming in this diverse pool of talent is operatic soprano Lauren Flanigan, actor Jerry Stiller—known for playing Frank Costanza on Seinfeld and fathering actor Ben Stiller—members of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and the versatile Bill Irwin, whose elastic limbs and quirky characters have been seen on CSI, Sesame Street, and in Bobby McFerrin's video for "Don't Worry Be Happy.” Also performing are Chicago hip-hop MCs The Q Brothers, who rework Shakespeare's stories and verse by throwing heavy bass and deep beats behind rapped rhymes. This past summer, the group performed Othello: the Remix at The Globe Theatre in London, a performance which received a standing ovation, a five-star review in the Telegraph, and award for the Best New Musical Theatre Show.

After the black-tie gala performance, guests head to the National Building Museum to nibble on hors d'oeuvres and desserts, washing them down with sips from an open bar. A DJ draws feet to the dance floor to bump into the evening's stars by spinning catchy rhythms and planting hidden magnets under the floorboards.

Though Shakespeare Theatre Company sometimes features a discounted price online, this Groupon still offers the best deal available.
