Music is a force powerful enough to calm a baby, soothe a wild beast, or compel the two to dance with each other. Be overcome by this GrouponLive deal to The Love Show at the Westin La Paloma Resort. For $50, you get one VIP ticket for seating on Friday, February 1, at 7:30 p.m. (up to a $100 value, including all fees). Doors open at 6 p.m. for a social hour, which includes a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, and a silent auction.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, The Love Show brings together a bevy of singers and jazz musicians who stir hearts with romantic songs. Elliot Glicksman, a local pro bono attorney and standup comedian, and David Fitzsimmons, a cartoonist and performer, emcee and introduce acts such as trumpeter Jason Carder and country-pop singer Lee Ann Savage in between lobbing jokes or quick sketches of Cupid at the crowd. Jazz vocalist Julie Anne, veteran Broadway performer Jack Neubeck, and R&B crooner Crystal Stark lend their inimitable pipes to the evening. Melodies are furnished by pianist Jeff Haskell, a consummate musician who has scored the theme for ABC’s IT Show and won three Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards, and trombonist Moisés Paiewonsky, an associate professor of music at the University of Arizona and a frequent performer with orchestras throughout the country.
The soulful sounds ring out through the Westin La Paloma Resort, a certified green hotel perched in the foothills of the gorgeous Santa Catalina Mountains. Sponsored by the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and the University of Arizona School of Music, the concert benefits arts-education programs in more than 20 local schools in addition to jazz-music programs at the university.
