Timon of Athens

Timon of Athens follows the spiraling misfortunes of the titular aristocratic Greek, taking a dark tone shot through with acerbic humor. Freely dispensing gifts and aid to his friends, Timon starts as one of Athens' most popular citizens. When his fortune dries up, however, his old compatriots abandon him, shattering his regard for human nature. Overtaken by misanthropy, the formerly merry man retreats to a cave in the wilderness, plotting revenge and trying to parlay his new, root-only diet into a successful cookbook deal.

Two Noble Kinsmen

Believed to have been co-written by Shakespeare and John Fletcher—his successor as the King's Men house playwright—Two Noble Kinsmen weaves a tale of romantic intrigue and familial betrayal taken from Chaucer. Arcite and Palamon, two warrior cousins, find themselves captured by the Athenian king during their defense of Thebes. While locked in prison, the duo both fall in love with a woman glimpsed from the cell window, instantly forgetting their former camaraderie in favor of bitter competition over who gets to have an imaginary relationship with her. The two eventually escape their captivity, however, setting up a dramatic final confrontation over who will woo their mystery girl.

St. Louis Shakespeare

St. Louis Shakespeare was initially founded as a summer festival that showcased Shakespearean plays and other classics. Today the company presents three Shakespeare plays and one non-Shakespeare play per season, and, since 1995, has toured kid-friendly adaptations of its shows to children and adults who hate big words.
