San Francisco’s Super Diamond salutes the commanding voice and thick songbook of entertainment legend Neil Diamond in a rockling live tribute. Super Diamond’s dedicated act has won sheaves of critical acclaim and stage appearances with Diamond himself over a career that's spanned two decades and outlived several major sequin manufacturers. Five seasoned musicians stand behind effervescent Diamond surrogate Surreal Neil, whose "uncanny impersonation of Mr. Diamond's throaty, baritone voice is, well, surreal," as the New York Times reported in 2003. During any given show, the band might power through classics such as “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” and “Cherry Cherry," accompanied by smoke machines and suave '70s gear in addition to a heavier guitar sound that sets its sound apart from that of its muse and his little-known Super Diamond cover band.
House of Blues Las Vegas
There's a piece of the Delta on the Las Vegas strip. Beneath the stage of the House of Blues, a metal box of Mississippi mud reminds every performer who steps in the spotlight where the blues originated. But if they forget to think about the mud beneath their feet, the sights of the venue will surely be enough reminder. More than 300 pieces of folk art speckle the walls and 50,000 bottle caps comprise a tactile mural at the entrance to surround performers and audiences alike in southern simplicity. Still, a bit of the outside neon makes its way in. Hanging over the crowd, a chandelier from the ballroom of the old MGM glitters, echoing Las Vegas's ever-shining light.
