Reportedly the first openly gay comedian to appear on television, Suzanne Westenhoefer helped pave the way for out performers such as Ellen DeGeneres, Rosie O’Donnell, and Kate McKinnon. Her groundbreaking 1991 appearance on The Sally Jessy Raphael Show led to gigs on the Late Show with David Letterman as well as HBO and Comedy Central, where her conversational style, sharp writing, and humorous takes on being gay in America endeared her to a growing audience. On her latest tour, Westenhoefer unleashes new material culled from a year peppered with divorce and dating. As she strolls across the stage, she shares her latest insights with her signature quick wit and personable approach.
On most evenings, Wallstreet Nightclub clearly has dancing on its mind. Giant screens flash videos around the club, moodily lit in turquoise, violet, and magenta by hanging cylindrical lamps. But the sprawling LGBT club is flexible enough to accommodate all kinds of raucous entertainments, including standup comedy, musicals, and burlesque and drag shows. Multiple full bars ensure that no one’s more than a feather-boa’s length away from a drink.
