The Scouting Report
The Tampa Yankees have served as an avenue to the big leagues for nearly two decades. This past spring alone, 52 former Tampa players were included on the New York Yankees' spring training roster. On August 24—the final Saturday home game of the season—fans can catch more glimpses of the future when the Yankees take on the Florida State League's top second-half team, the Daytona Cubs. Before scouting big-league prospects, ballpark visitors can also enjoy "Fan Appreciation Night" activities, which include raffle prizes and a giveaway of a limited-edition bobble head of one of the Yankees' (both New York's and Tampa's) biggest legends. Before the game, kids can run the bases, get their faces painted, and visit the concourse to collect autographs and ask T-Yanks players the age-old question: Where do umpires come from? After the final pitch, fireworks light up the sky above George M. Steinbrenner Field.
