Based on the hit animated Disney film, Tarzan: The Musical brings Phil Collins’s music and Edgar Rice Burroughs’s heartfelt story to the stage. In this interpretation of the classic tale, a shipwreck leaves an infant orphaned in West Africa, where he is adopted by a band of gorillas. As he grows and learns from the apes, Tarzan strikes up a friendship with the rambunctious gorilla, Terk, and struggles for the acceptance of the tribe’s leader, Kerchak. However, the arrival of a group of explorers, among them the young naturalist Jane, forces Tarzan to choose between his primate family and human love. His journey is further complicated by Clayton, a villainous hunter jealous of the blossoming romance between Tarzan and Jane. In addition to such hits from the movie as “Strangers Like Me” and “You’ll Be In My Heart,” Phil Collins wrote nine additional songs for the stage, the majority of which are “In the Air Tonight” with different lyrics.
