As the AHL development affiliate of the Dallas Stars, the Texas Stars burn up their home ice during heated matches against rival Western Conference teams. Under the guidance of a new coaching staff, young talent with NHL aspirations furiously strive to score points and successfully build an igloo with salt spackling. Recent key acquisitions include goalie Jack Campbell and first-round draft pick last season, as well as towering 6’7” defenseman Jamie Oleksiak who was picked up in the first round of this season. As the AHL affiliate of their big-league Dallas namesake, the Texas Stars spared no time claiming their birthright. In its very first season—2009–10—the team conquered the Western Conference, hoisting the Robert W. Clarke Trophy and earning a place in the Calder Cup finals. Since every faceoff was past the newborn Stars’ bedtime, they ultimately fell short of the league championship, but they continue to entertain crowds of up to 6,800 at the Cedar Park Center.
