In a Nutshell

The upscale club barrages boredom with a rotating lineup of local and nationally renowned comics, a full bar, and no drink minimums

The Fine Print

Both laughter and tears can be cathartic, but only laughter is OK in front of your dog. Laugh until you cry with this GrouponLive deal to The Comedy Bar. Choose between the following options:

  • For $10, you get two general-admission tickets to any regular Thursday show (a $20 value).

  • For $18, you get four general-admission tickets to any regular Thursday show (a $40 value).

Check the schedule for shows. Performances are at 8 p.m., 10 p.m., and midnight. Doors open 30 minutes before each showtime.

At The Comedy Bar, silly and subversive routines split sides inside a sophisticated River North space with a full bar but no drink minimums. A trio of shows run every Thursday night, bringing together local Chicago laughmasters to bust out jokes about city living. Sean Flannery’s one-man show Never Been to Paris, which has been featured on NPR's Snap Judgment, runs at 8 p.m. In each performance, Sean recounts hilarious stories about near-death experiences illustrated with voicemails, video, and drawings. At 10 p.m., local improvisers and standup comics led by performer Cody Dove take to the stage to shape scenes out of audience suggestions and giant piles of play-doh in The Improv Hour. As the witching hour approaches, Greg Woods and the Riffs unleash gruff tunes during Midnight Blues, a live-music show that trades jokes for swampy chord progressions. The Comedy Bar recommends that guests arrive at least 15 minutes before each show so hosts can lead them to a white-tablecloth-draped cocktail table and they can tell everyone around them their life story.

The Groupon Guide to: Boat Clubs

Millions of people own a boat, but—surprisingly—only a few of them get together once a week to talk boat. If you own a boat and haven't joined a boat club, check out some of the topics typically covered in a boat-club meeting so you can see what you're missing:

  • What's your boat's name?
  • What would your boat's name be if your boat could have named itself?
  • What are your favorite boat memories that you haven't made yet?
  • Share the first word that comes to your mind when thinking about your boat. Choose either "boat-like" or "boaty."
  • In a perfect world, how many boats would you like each of your children to own? (This is a trick question. The correct answer is: in a perfect world, my boat is my only child.)
  • On your tax returns, what do you list as you occupation? Boat owner? Boatman? Professional boatist? Something else that has "boat" in it?
  • Is your boat here right now? Can you point it out?

Is 2013 the Year of the Boat? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
