In a Nutshell

Inside urban venue, DJ-turned-comedian mines for laughs with energetic stories, followed by a tune-filled afterparty

The Fine Print

Comedy has long been used to subvert the established order, shedding light on modern life's pervasive absurdities and fomenting distrust of potentially seltzer-filled boutonnieres. Fight the power with today’s GrouponLive deal to see a comedy show featuring DJ Cooch, presented by Factory Comedy at One Nightclub. For $20, you get two general-admission tickets on Friday, December 7, at 8:30 p.m. (a $40 value). Doors open at 8 p.m.

Né Jorge Aldama, DJ Cooch spent more than a decade making a name for himself working the turntables at bass-filled clubs up and down the West Coast. His ability to sweet-talk the mic led to gigs cohosting MTV’s Rock the Vote with Ashton Kutcher and flying overseas to entertain troops in Iraq. These experiences eventually culminated in a successful comedy career, which officially began at Ontario's Improv. Now splitting his time between making music and tickling ribs, DJ Cooch tours the country as a part of George Lopez's Party Bus tour, commanding audiences with his bombastic mien and stories about people watching in Las Vegas and being single. Special guests warm up the audience, and an afterparty at the nightclub invites guests to let their hair down before its acrophobia causes it to curl tightly around the nearest pillar.

The Groupon Guide to: Preserving Leftovers

With the right techniques and a lot of luck, there's no reason that this year's holiday leftovers won't be edible next year. Here's how you can keep your scraps fresh:

  • Store food in airtight containers. To make sure there's no leak, add in a bunch of ants and see if they can survive.

  • Before storing the food, cut off any pieces that have clearly been chewed. If you don't, and the person that chewed that food isn't around for the next Thanksgiving, you'll be feeling pretty sad when you pull those leftovers out and recognize their bite pattern.

  • The freezer is your best friend, in that it will prevent food from spoiling, and your worst enemy, in that it is so perfectly sized to fit a human body and has that alluring pristinely white interior, and whenever you open the door it sounds like it's saying, "Please come inside. I'm warmer than I look." Please be careful near freezers.

  • Save your leftovers the same way our forefathers did—by feeding the scraps to their horses then hoping the horses would give them back exactly one year later.

If you think those mashed potatoes are good now, wait till you try them in a year!
