In a Nutshell

Dance and vocal teams flood the stage with Broadway hits at a fundraiser for community outreach and preservation of African American culture

The Fine Print

Dancers use their bodies to express emotions, unlike opera singers, who use their voices, and Punchin' Jack, who only uses his fists. To benefit its mission of African American cultural preservation and unveil its upcoming Broadway in Bronzeville series, the Harold Washington Cultural Center hosts an evening highlighted with song and dance. Performers from dance collectives MADD Rhythms, Endure Dance Productions, and other local troupes flood the stage with dazzling choreography. Guests can also peruse an art exhibit, telepathically bid in a silent auction, or brush elbows with fellow VIPs at a preshow reception in the spacious lobby. A luminous, arched window casts a glow across the marble floors, and an iron staircase unspools from the balcony like the tongue of a dragon. Each year, the center performs community outreach to serve more than 45,000 youth through arts programs, teen summits, and special events.

Harold Washington Cultural Center

Named in honor of Chicago’s first African-American mayor, the Harold Washington Cultural Center hosts theatrical and musical events that echo the center’s mission of African-American cultural preservation. In addition to its entertainment, the center performs community outreach each year to serve more than 45,000 youth through arts programs, teen summits, and special events.
