Michael Feinstein, Christine Ebersole, and Betty Buckley with The Philadelphia Orchestra
Singer, pianist, historian, firm hand-shaker, and preeminent anthropologist of American music Michael Feinstein has a passion for tunes that were born and bred in the USA. The multiplatinum-selling and Grammy-nominated star and curator of the PBS series Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook made his name unearthing, archiving, and performing buried show tunes and lounge standards. Live, the preeminent showman, aided by the Philadelphia Orchestra, evokes a golden era of entertainment—from Sinatra to Gershwin. Along for the ride are Tony-winners Christine Ebersole and Betty Buckley, legendary performers of the Great White Way and master song-wranglers. Together, they lend their impressive voices, charisma, and ability to stand in a bright light without melting to the songs Feinstein raises from the annals of Broadway and beyond.
The Mann Center
The Mann Center is a prepossessing structure from anywhere you sit in the semi-covered amphitheater—all huge, rough slabs of timber that evoke the setting for a barn dance held by elegant giants. Even the lawn section isn’t an ordinary lawn: from the top of the steep hill where the theater perches, audiences can see not only the performers lighting up the stage below but also the canopy of trees in surrounding Fairmount Park and the city skyline just beyond.
