In a Nutshell

Traveling exhibition celebrates Leonardo da Vinci’s multifarious legacy with artisan-built machines, 3-D animations, and his journals

The Fine Print

Centuries before they were possible, Leonardo da Vinci designed the helicopter and the bicycle using only mathematics and pieces of his father's Mercedes. Explore your inventive side with this GrouponLive deal: for $23, you get a general-admission package to see Da Vinci – The Genius at The Venetian Las Vegas (up to a $47 value). The admission package includes:

  • One exhibit admission (up to a $27 value)
  • One greenscreen souvenir photograph (multiple backdrops available) (a $20 value)
  • 20% off entire purchase at the Leonardo da Vinci gift shop

The very definition of a Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci mastered a seemingly inexhaustible range of disciplines within his lifetime. Da Vinci – The Genius honors the legend’s self-taught brilliance and slapstick sense of humor with exhibits that explore his multifarious legacies in the fields of art, science, music, and philosophy. Visitors can stroll through a mechanical forest of inventions based on drawings in da Vinci’s codices and constructed by modern-day Italian artisans, and marvel at early concept designs for the car, bicycle, and helicopter.

A 3-D animation of The Last Supper examines the disciples’ enigmatic facial expressions, and the Secrets of Mona Lisa display highlights the discoveries of French engineer Pascal Cotte during his sojourn with the lady at the Louvre. Facsimiles of da Vinci’s journals and codices—from which most of the exhibition’s materials are gathered—are presented in paper and digitized forms, many encoded in the artist’s mysterious writing technique that many believe he created when still in school to safely pass notes to his girlfriend. Vincian experts and museum curators each lend more than 25 years of experience to the written explanations that accompany each display. Before heading home, visitors can smile enigmatically in front of a greenscreen and integrate themselves into the Mona Lisa or The Last Supper.

The Groupon Guide to: Odiferous Lunches

Whether you eat lunch with your coworkers, costudents, or coconspirators, you want to be packing impressive smells in your midday meal. Here are some of the smelliest lunches around:

Tuna: The “fish of the sea” gives off a strong odor when let loose from its can. Mix it with mayo and relish to up its pungent power.

Garlic: When it comes to filling a room with smells, garlic is Mother Nature’s edible Glade PlugIn. Turn any sandwich into a psychedelic smellscape by adding whole cloves of garlic to it.

Blue Cheese: The cheese that makes sense as much as it makes scents! Melt blue cheese using your desktop fondue maker (bowl on top of warm computer) and you’ve got yourself an all-day smell factory.

Flowers: Did you know they’re edible? Well, most of them are, but they’re extremely fattening. Check with your local florist for nutrition facts and yummy samples.

How are millions of Americans making delicious fondue at their desks?
