In a Nutshell

Creator of I Still Love H.E.R. returns to the Viaduct for a solo takedown of everything, raising questions on healthcare in the process

The Fine Print

The immediacy of theater emotionally involves audiences in a way matched only by interactive performance art and paintings of disapproving fathers. On the heels of the seven-year run of I Still Love H.E.R. (atributetohiphop), playwright Wendell Tucker takes to the Viaduct stage once more, this time for his own one-man show, Wendell Tucker Hates the World. Based on his experiences as an African American with Major Depressive Disorder, the one-hour onslaught tears a path through the lengthy list of things Wendell despises, including dating, pop culture, and current healthcare policies. The comedic massacre even reaches to such innocuous things as jello. But just beneath the surface a question begins to form: is Wendell just a bitter crank, or does his hate stem from something more pervasive?

Viaduct Theater

The Viaduct Theater's intimate environs encourage audiences to engage with the show, though viewers in the front rows may find themselves splattered with raw vitriol. Before and after the play, crowd members can order a beer from the onsite bar and admire the vintage theater and concert posters plastering the lobby walls (drinks not included with this Groupon).

The Groupon Guide to: Famous Movie Lines

It's important to take a few moments once in a while to thank Hollywood for all it's done for us. If you want to show your gratitude, simply recite one of the following famous movie quotes:

  • "Frankenstein, my dear, I don't really care" – Red "Fox" Butler, Dragged in the Wind (1942)
  • "Shut up, Mr. De Mille. I'm ready for my close up." – Ingrid Swansong, Swandog de Millionaire (1951)
  • "What's that big grey thing in the water? (gulp) It's…it's…J-J-J-Jaws!" – Jerry Lewis, For Whom the Jaws Jaw (1973)
  • "Make Seven, Up Yours." – Smith Brad, 7e7en (1995)
  • "One does not simply walk into Mordor. One could fly on an eagle to get there probably, but it would be cooler to do that on the way out." – Sean Beans, Ring Lords One: The Fellowship of the Ring Lords (2001)
  • "A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what is cool? Me. (Saxophone solo)" – Justin Tibblesmith, The Online Network (2010)

Based on the true saxophone story.
