Pedals press against metal as racers carve their rubbery insignias into the twin-paved oval racetracks at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Deafening cheers drown out the asphalt’s pleas for mercy as stock cars, sprint cars, trucks, and other motorsport vehicles compete for checkered flags and World’s Greatest Grandpa trophies on NASCAR race nights, which often showcase several racing styles. Two-tone hats will fly at Truckers Night on September 24, where 22-year-old Ryan Partridge looks to take a crunchy bite out of his competition in the King Taco Super Trucks race. October 15’s Metal Mulisha Freestyle Motocross event promises to push adrenaline levels to cataclysmic highs after cars warm up the track during the Seidners Collision Centers Skid Plate race. Consecutive weeks of high-speed obliteration follow, with a monster-truck rally on October 22 paving the way for the Night of Destruction III on October 29. The event rewrites the book on red-card penalties with an auto soccer game that features a 500-pound ball and vehicles clad in 14-foot athletic socks.
On Indian-summer nights at the speedway, cars breeze down the track, cooling off crowds sitting in centrally located reserved seats. A paved parking lot for more than 3,000 cars ensures that families will have ample room to park their minivans or elephant herds.
The October 22 and 29 races have been cancelled. Groupon purchasers may redeem their Groupons at the races on November 24 and 26. Consult the schedule for more information.
The facility is very clean and is kept-up well, which is a welcome change from other race facilities.Amy W., Yelp, 11/29/10
