In a Nutshell

Authentic life-size clay soldiers and over 200 Chinese artifacts explore the legacy of China's first emperor in exhibit ending August 26

The Fine Print

Without dedicated bonding time, family members grow resentful of one another's bad habits, such as cheating at Monopoly and warming socks in the toaster. Preserve familial unity with this Groupon to see the Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China's First Emperor exhibit at Discovery Times Square. Choose between the following options:

  • For $13, you get one ticket for a child aged 4–12 (a $26.13 value, including all fees). Children younger than 4 are admitted for free.
  • For $17, you get one ticket for an adult (a $34.30 value, including all fees).

This Groupon is valid through August 24, with the exhibit closing on August 26.

When the first emperor of China was buried more than two millennia ago, he was not alone—an army of 8,000 clay soldiers joined him to protect and serve in the afterlife. In 1974, a group of well diggers discovered the tomb by accident, heralding decades of devoted research and reconstruction. Now a squadron of Qin Shihuangdi's eternal army maintains a vigil in the Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China's First Emperor exhibit at Discovery Times Square, representing five of the six military ranks on guard in the tomb. Joining them on display are more than 200 artifacts from ancient China, including the U.S. premiere of golden chariot decorations and a ritual drinking vessel, as well as the world premiere of an ancient Han burial gate. Each of the soldiers is intricately detailed and boasts the lifelike specifications of a typical man: six feet tall and 600 pounds. Along with the statues comes their story, described by the New York Times as "an action-adventure narrative, part deep history, part archaeological romance."

Discovery Times Square

Unlike more traditional museums, Discovery Times Square does much more than simply display artifacts. The space, located in the building once occupied by the New York Times printing presses, encourages visitors to learn through interactive, sensory exhibits. Past shows have taken guests inside the Titanic’s final wreck site, Da Vinci’s ingenious inventions, and the vast collection of riches and bandages owned by King Tut. The Discovery Times Square shop features games, DVDs, and other Discovery Channel products, as well as sweet treats from the DC Cupcakes Café and Georgetown Cupcake.

The Groupon Guide to: Pranks

Television prank shows have never been more popular. Old people are pranking young people, young people are pranking young people, and middle-age life is its own kind of twisted prank. Get in on the jocular action with these fun-loving pranks:

  • Dump out the prankee's shampoo and replace it with small, round lead pellets.
  • Replace the prankee's delicious, wet-centered eggs with useless hard-boiled eggs.
  • Set free all of your prankee's horses and valuable livestock.
  • Switch the contents of your prankee's suitcase with the contents of someone else's suitcase at the airport. You've actually pranked two people, you goofy monster.
  • Switch identities with your prankee (unless they have a criminal record or bad spouse).

Is anyone pranking middle-aged people?
