In a Nutshell

In pursuit of a 27th consecutive appearance in the regional championships, the Wildcats face Missouri in final meet of the regular season

The Fine Print

Watching an athlete succeed is supremely satisfying, though curiously, so is watching a dam fail. Feel the rush with this GrouponLive deal to see a University of Arizona Wildcats women’s gymnastics meet at the McKale Center. For $7, you get general admission for one to the dual meet against the University of Missouri Tigers on Saturday, March 16, at 4 p.m. (up to a $16 value). Doors open at 3 p.m. Season tickets are also available on the Arizona Wildcats website for $20.

The Scouting Report

In their final meet of the 2012–13 regular season, Arizona’s women’s gymnastics squad defends the McKale Center’s mats against the University of Missouri Tigers. Ranked 16th in the country in the poll released on March 4, the Wildcats have already had a successful season that includes a victory over rival Arizona State and a first-place finish at a quad meet with BYU, Texas Woman's, and Wisconsin-Whitewater. Having already led the Wildcats to the regional championships in each of his first 14 seasons, head coach Bill Ryden will try to keep his gymnasts sharp to finish the season strong and prepare for the Pac-12 championships, held the following week. Senior all-around competitor Aubree Cristello anchors Ryden’s squad after qualifying to compete at the NCAA championships last year while earning a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team for the third consecutive season.

Though this merchant sometimes offers a discounted price online, this Groupon is still the best deal available.

University of Arizona Wildcats

Over the years, the University of Arizona’s athletic teams have been linked together by one phrase: “bear down.” Now the official battle cry of the Wildcats, those were the dying words of an iconic student-athlete, John “Button” Salmon, who died in 1926 after a car accident. Since then, the phrase has stood behind countless milestone moments, such as when Lute Olson, in 1983, became the 11th head coach of the Wildcats men’s basketball team, setting off a string of 25 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances—including a national title in 1997. Several other national titles belong to Arizona outside the hardwood, including four from the men’s baseball team and eight from the women’s softball program. Every fall inside Arizona Stadium, the Wildcats football team rouses up to 56,000 fans with hard-hitting Pac-12 showdowns, by far the most popular event on campus behind the linguistics department’s weekly phonetics bee.

The Groupon Guide to: Playground Games

Although scientists have tried to quash children's dangerously powerful imaginations with high-tech video games and distracting pocket telephones, they have still been unable to fully eliminate these popular technology-free schoolyard games:

Red Rover: Two opposing chains of locked-arm children take turns volleying sacrificial members of their row toward the other chain in hopes of breaking it. The first team to be dragged into the pond loses.

Hidesies & Findsies: One player covers their eyes and counts as high as he is able to while the other players go hither and elsewhiles, squeezing themselves into hollow logs and crevices. The last player to be found is the winner, and it is now their turn to cover their eyes and be abandoned by their friends.

Freeze Tag: Regular tag played cautiously on the surface of a frozen lake

Red Light, Green Light: This imaginative game of stop and go allows children a safe outlet in which to exercise their secret desire to play in traffic. The winner is parents.
