The Scouting Report

With the 2012–13 regular-season nearing the end, the Hokies square off against ACC rivals North Carolina and Florida State as the NCAA tournament approaches. Anchored by a strong duo of veteran guards in junior Monet Tellier and senior Alyssa Fenyn—the team's two leading scorers through 24 games—the Hokies hope to thwart the Tar Heels and the Seminoles by using savvy teamwork and exploiting their insider knowledge of Cassell Coliseum's loosest floorboards. The Hokies have also seen major contributions this year from freshman guard Lauren Evans, who has recorded 38 assists and 29 steals in 24 games.

Virginia Tech Hokies

A member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Virginia Tech Hokies compete at the highest level of collegiate sports, excelling in a variety of programs ranging from women's lacrosse to swimming and diving. Still, track and field stands out as the Hokies' most venerable discipline; over the years, the men's and women's teams have combined to produce 12 individual NCAA champions, and in 2012, the men's team claimed its first-ever ACC title after finally besting Florida State's 1,000-ton cave trolls at the hammer throw. Not to be overshadowed, 2012's VT football team clinched a bowl-game berth for a 20th consecutive season, becoming only the sixth team in NCAA history to accomplish such a feat and extending the third-longest active streak in college football.
