In a Nutshell

A vintage-clothing and furniture blog deploys roving flea market at the Aragon every second Sunday of June, July, August, and September

The Fine Print

For some people clothes are a fashion choice, but for others clothes are just something they wear so that moms don't make them sit on a towel all the time. Dress yourself with this GrouponLive deal: for $10, you get a season pass to The Vintage Bazaar at the Aragon Ballroom (a $20 value). Children younger than 12 are regularly admitted for free. The Vintage Bazaar takes place from noon to 5 p.m. on four Sundays this summer: June 10, July 8, August 12, and at West Division Street and North Wolcott Avenue in Wicker Park on September 9.

Like the roving Romani caravans that once slung goods throughout Europe, The Vintage Bazaar supplies Chicago with wares at ephemeral pop-up markets. For the first time ever, the vendors descend on the same impromptu marketplace four months in a row, treating the history-soaked Aragon and its surrounding neighborhood to a summer of local food, charming garb, antique furniture, and home decor. BombshellShocked graces the scene with glamour and gumption, peddling flashy fashions from the '20s on, and Circa Modern keeps homes chic with furniture from notable designers across the modern era. With its incredibly diverse lineup of merchants, The Vintage Bazaar caters to even the most esoteric of tastes and is an essential stop before any time-traveling expedition.

Fine clothing and decor are not the only outlets to the past. The straight-razor wielding trimmers of Joe's Barbershop will be on hand to provide guys with a classically fresh feeling, and coffee, beer, and cocktails keep spirits high and help conjure the feel of an old timey lounge. Those with a special interest in history can join Chicago scholar Albert Walavich on a free tour of the Aragon every half-hour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., hoping that one of their new hats is the enchanted fedora that opens Al Capone's secret network of tunnels.

The Groupon Guide to: Home-Furnishing Stores

The cold, bare walls of a new apartment can feel like they're staring you down, intimidating you, even trying to break you up into your base components of accumulated anxieties and failures so that you're made to understand, in your soul, that all you've done by moving is built yourself another cage. Gild that cage to maximum coziness with lovely furnishings from any of these popular housewares stores:

  • Pottery Grotto
  • Crate & Crater
  • Nuffin' but Muffin Baking Supplies!
  • Statuesequities: Decorative Yardware and Ceramic Goosery
  • Chair Store Junior
  • POÄNG: the Swedish Design Consortium that Openly Hates You
  • I-Saw-This-Patio-in-My-Dream™
  • Stooly's
