No Man's Land

Epitomizing the dreamy, vaguely menacing atmosphere and pause-laden dialogue that cemented Harold Pinter's reputation as Britain's greatest 20th century playwright, No Man's Land offers up a cryptic meditation on old age, memory, and invention. Returning home from an evening at the pub with a mysterious drinking partner in tow, booze-soaked poet Hirst finds himself locked in a verbal battle with his companion—who he may know from his university days—and his two man servants, Foster and Briggs. WSC Avant Bard's production brings together years of company leadership, with current artistic director Tom Prewitt helming the show, which stars artistic director emeritus Christopher Henley, his predecessor, Brian Hemmingsen, along with company member Frank Britton and audience favorite Bruce Alan Rauscher.

Caesar and Dada – World Premier

A world premier by playwright Allyson Currin, Caesar and Dada transports audiences to a Europe that’s catching its breath between the chaos of two world wars. The head of a realist-theater troupe in Zurich, dictatorial director Franz envisions his production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar as a by-the-book interpretation. The arrival of an ambitious American actress, however, throws a wrench in the proceedings, forcing Franz to deal with the surrealist disturbances of the Dada movement and acknowledge that America is an actual place.

WSC Avant Bard

Established as the Washington Shakespeare Company in 1990, WSC Avant Bard is dedicated to updating classic theater for modern audiences, revitalizing well-worn drama with challenging interpretations. Under the leadership of newly appointed artistic director Tom Prewitt, the theater treats audiences to daring productions of established classics, new works, and little-known Shakespeare fan-fiction about him teaming up to fight crime with Queen Elizabeth I.
