The Scouting Report

When the 2013 seasons kicks off in late May, the Bucks will begin their hunt for their third championship as part of the Northwoods League, which corrals collegiate ballplayers from across the country for an abbreviated, three-month season. Since beginning play in Waterloo in 1995, the Bucks have captivated local fans each summer, showcasing baseball's future stars before they head back to their universities or decide to study abroad beneath second base.

Waterloo Bucks

Since joining the Northwoods League in 1995, the Waterloo Bucks have been seemingly destined for success. Between 1996 and 2002, the team earned seven consecutive postseason appearances, claiming two league championships in the process. And though the team found success in such a short time, the Bucks' home field—Riverfront Stadium—boasts a storied, seven-decade-long history, during which the venue hosted five minor-league teams and at least one enthusiastic fan who was happy to trade his buffalo nickels for a autoquilled photograph of his favorite ballplayer.
