In a Nutshell

Rusko, Crookers, and Danny Tenaglia punctuate a roster of electronic-music performers and DJs at this three-day water-adjacent festival

The Fine Print

Electronic dance music has a longer history than most people realize, starting in 1844 with Samuel Morse’s second telegraph message, “S.O.S. (Dubstep Remix).” Get the message with this GrouponLive deal to the Wavefront Music Festival at Montrose Beach. For $99, you get one three-day pass for general admission (up to a $189.99 value). The pass is valid from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday, July 5, and Saturday, July 6, and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 7.

For its second year in the Windy City, Wavefront Music Festival takes over the shores of Montrose Beach with electronic beats, ditties, and record spins from a dream team of DJ and house-music acts, with more to be announced. For three straight days, fireworks and grid-punishing light shows illuminate the skies and throw wayward ghost ships off course as fans revel to throbbing progressive soundscapes from a slew of international dynamos.

Lineup (In Progress)

Benoit & Sergio: Rising DC DJs instill dance jams with sardonic wit in the vein of LCD Soundsystem
Caspa: London DJ, festival maven, and “the dopest ghost in town.”

Crookers: Italian electro-house DJ, producer of Dr. Gonzo with remix credits including Britney Spears and Lady Gaga
Guy Gerber: Israeli DJ creates shoegaze techno with live instrumentation
Nicolas Jaar: Deep-house DJ whose BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix was voted Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year 2012
Jamie Jones: Welsh DJ and producer of the UK Top 40 hit “Benediction”
Chris Lake: Scottish house DJ behind dance-chart hits such as “Carry Me Away” and “Only One”
Damian Lazarus: popular LA DJ and ace spinner of underground records
Rusko: British dubstep dynamo behind the hit “Cockney Thug”
Danny Tenaglia: 30-year veteran DJ, Grammy nominated for a remix of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel Loved”

The Groupon Guide to: Speed-Reading

Reading is so boring that if you don't do it fast, you're at risk of falling asleep and hitting your head on a book. Diminish your reading time to mere seconds a day with these speed-reading tips:

  • Practice moving your eyes really fast by quickly looking back and forth at a set of twins until they start to look like one person.

  • Most written text is full of extra words that the author put in to sound smart and pay homage to that old hag Mother Grammar. Skip the fluff by only reading words that are men's names, parts of a horse, in a crazy font, or "Las Vegas."

  • Do not ever read anything inside of parentheses. Parentheses are the garbage can of the page where the author puts his least important or most disgusting thoughts.

  • Use the shape of a paragraph to guide you. Big and blocky? No use in reading what's probably just boring backstory. Thin and slim? You've found that sweet, scintillating mistress we call dialogue—read away.

(Do NOT read this.)
