Ranked 10th in the 2012 preseason polls released by Canadian Interuniversity Sport, the University of Windsor Lancers ride a wave of high expectations into Alumni Field as they take on the York University Lions in the fifth game of the regular season. Each offensive snap runs through quarterback Austin Kennedy, a Windsor native who eclipsed school records and tested lethargic stat-keepers with 482 passing yards and six touchdowns in the 63–18 drubbing of the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the season opener. In his second year as head coach, Joe D'Amore has his sights set on a postseason run, hoping to continue a tradition of gridiron glory that dates back to 1996, when he began his career as a Lancers' wide receiver and three-year team captain. As the action plays out on the field, spectators can join their navy-and-gold-clad comrades in cheers of support for each circus catch, bell-ringing tackle, or stoppage of play to herd wayward freshman off the field.
