In a Nutshell

Comedy club continues 36-year tradition with upcoming month's roster of TV-tested humorists & rising comic stars

The Fine Print

Without laughter, knock-knocks would only reveal door-to-door salesmen and the Tickle Monster would have to change his name to the “Socially Awkward Monster.” Revel in uninhibited laughs with this GrouponLive deal to see a comedy show at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club at the Walper Hotel. For $18, you get two general-admission tickets to any regular show between May 1 and September 3 (up to a $36.60 value). Performances take place Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Since their Toronto location opened in 1976, Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club has been a collective launching pad for such comedy heavyweights as Jim Carrey, Rick Moranis, and Russell Peters. Yuk Yuk’s Kitchener stage makes way for an oncoming stampede of funny people, including sketch comedy aficionado Allyson Smith (May 18–19), who may discuss her rib-tickling takes on late night infomercials or the trends she's noticed about other people named "Allyson." The quick-witted Ian Sirota (May 25–26) takes a more improvisational approach to humour as he stretches one-word replies from the audience into hilarious tirades interspersed with self-deprecating stories and punchy one-liners. The Walper Hotel provides dining and bar service for Yuk Yuk's events; those wishing to eat during the show should contact the hotel directly.

All of Yuk Yuk's laugh-establishments invite seasoned jokesters and up-and-coming comedians to their stages every weekend for up to three days of high hilarity and three nights of cozy lodging atop their cocktail tables. Many Yuk Yuk's locations offer drinks, dinner, or bar fare during the show, but those interested in dining should contact their club of choice to find out about reservations.

The Groupon Guide to: New Magic Tricks

Magic has waned in popularity as audiences grow more familiar with stock tricks, and learn the secrets behind them off spoiler-laden sites like Magikipedia. Bring the wow back to now with this list of sure-to-impress, brand-new magic tricks:

  • Swallowing a hundred pennies
  • Pulling a rabbit out of a YouTube video of a rabbit
  • Wearing a vest with no jacket
  • Sawing your assistant in half, but you know, like, longways
  • Petitioning Costco to start stocking doves
  • Pulling out one of your own teeth on stage
  • Setting a big pile of money on fire

Is the most popular magic trick of all time really “setting a pile of money on fire?”
