In a Nutshell

Two renowned dance troupes take over storied stage for performances that showcase original choreography and blend different styles

The Fine Print

Ballet dancers spend an unusual amount of time on their toes, much like the coworker who creeps up behind your chair every day just to watch you for a while. Gaze at grace with this GrouponLive deal to see a dance performance at the Zeiterion Theatre. Choose between the following options:

  • For $25, you get one ticket for center orchestra front seating to see Doug Varone & Dancers on Saturday, March 2, at 8 p.m. (up to a $50.50 value, including all fees). Doors open at 7 p.m.

  • For $25, you get one ticket for center orchestra front seating to see Complexions Contemporary Ballet on Friday, April 5, at 8 p.m. (up to a $49 value, including all fees). Doors open at 7 p.m.

Doug Varone & Dancers strive to tell emotionally resonant stories through original, technically complex modern-dance pieces. During their 25th anniversary tour, the graceful, athletic bodies of the troupe's eight dancers execute their new piece, Carrugi, in a flurry of agile limbs, nimble leaps, and dramatic Running Mans alongside the crowd favorite Rise, which they’ve performed since 1993. Troupe founder Doug Varone also will treat audience members to an informative session on his creative process, sharing insight about his inspirations and choreography.

Headed by So You Think You Can Dance veterans Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions Contemporary Ballet has blended classical and modern dance styles from around the world into dazzling routines for more than 15 years. Armed with a repertoire of dozens of custom pieces, Complexions' dancers showcase the expressive possibilities of the human body more effectively than live tattooing competitions.

Zeiterion Theatre

Past rows of seats covered in crimson, past a red carpet that brings out the auditorium's regality, past a centerpiece chandelier that dangles from the ceiling with the quiet grace of a toddler climbing out of her crib, is a stage. Upon this stage, the Zeiterion Theatre explores the performing arts, hosting national and international performers who enlighten the community to other cultures and inspire the younger population to actively participate in the arts. Every year, Zeiterion, lovingly known as "The Z," also provides 5,000 free tickets to children and families with low incomes, working to make arts more accessible to all.
