Students learn horsemanship skills and proper safety precautions, including how to steer and control a horse on their own. The school provides the horses, tack, and helmets while recommending that riders wear jeans and a pair of boots.

Goslin-Nix Training Center

In 1959, a then 25-year-old Gwen Phillips Nix could be found juggling the duties of feeding, cleaning, and grooming the horses at the riding school by herself, all while teaching proper horsemanship skills to 150 students each week. Today, at the Goslin-Nix Training Center, Gwen has employed the talents of daughter Jennifer and Jennifer’s husband Fred to help her care for the horses. As a team, they have coached many students who went on to become national champions, reserve national champions, and regional champions. Students often attribute their highly decorated careers to the center's core philosophy, which is designed to instill confidence, communication with the horse, and patience when teaching horses how to tie their shoelaces.
