Where

Fox Valley Winery's owners, the Faltz family, have been growing grapevines since 2000, and at the vineyard near Sheridan, grandkids play among the rows as visitors picnic on the grounds. The winery itself is located in Oswego, where groups tour the facility and sample wines on the patio or cozied up by the fireplace. Its awards include a 2010 double gold at the Illinois State Fair for its Amore port-style wine and a slew of prizes for its traminette, including a bronze medal at the 2008 Lone Star International Wine Competition.

Acquaviva Winery's 40-acre estate vineyard is home to a 20,000-square-foot winery and tasting room. Owner Vito Brandonisio hails from Bari, Italy, where he often visited his grandfather's vineyard as a child, so when he built his own winery, he indulged in stunning Italian architecture and commissioned artist Andre Zabela to hand-paint the ceilings. The wines have taken home prizes from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, the Illinois State Fair Wine Competition, and more. The winery also boasts a Neapolitan-style pizza bistro where chefs make their own gnocchi and bake brazilian lobster tails in lemon-butter sauce.
