Questions and Answers

Do you consider cervical transverse myelitis a spinal cord injury?

Dat Q. asked 8 months, 14 days, 14 hours, and 16 minutes ago - 1 answer

The good folks at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury have the following answer to your question: The short answer to your question is yes. Transverse myelitis is caused by inflammation of the spinal cord and as such can be a non-traumatic cause of spinal cord injury. Although many patients recover from transverse myelitis with minor or no residual problems, many others suffer permanent impairment that affects their ability to perform ordinary tasks of daily living. A large portion of our patient population at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury are those who have been diagnosed with transverse myelitis or other demyelinating spinal cord disorders.
